Charlotte Abernathy

Charlotte Abernathy has been a successful visual artist for almost 30 years. She prefers to paint from life and loves to paint outdoors, immersing herself in the landscape as the impressionists did. After the death of her husband John, she found a need for the more personal expressions of poetry. Since then she has written over 300 poems, read hundreds of books by other poets, participated in poetry readings and attended workshops with accomplished poets Paulann Petersen, Peter Sears, John Daniels, Matthew Dickman and Lawson Inada. She has earned awards in local and regional competitions and has put together several chapbooks of her work. The skills she developed as a painter (the ability to focus, to pay attention and to interpret what she sees) have enriched her poetry and brought her a deeper appreciation of life.
